Paul JANZEN

Mr. Janzen was born and raised in New Westminster.  After graduating from New Westminster Secondary School he attended Simon Fraser University where he received a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science and Criminology) in 1986.  He attended law school at Queen’s University and received an LL.B in 1990. 

Mr. Janzen articled at a major Canadian law firm and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1991.  After his call to the Bar, he worked for many years in Downtown Vancouver practicing primarily commercial and civil litigation.  In 2005, he established a criminal defence practice in New Westminster. He joined Begbie Court Law in 2017. 

Since 2005 Mr. Janzen’s practice has focused on representing individuals charged with criminal offences.   He appears regularly in the Provincial Court of British Columbia and the Supreme Court of British Columbia defending clients charged with offences ranging from theft and spousal assault to drug trafficking, sexual assault, and murder.   He also represents individuals in civil and regulatory matters arising out of criminal charges. 

In his spare time Mr. Janzen enjoys volunteering in his community.  He is a Trustee of Shiloh-Fifth Avenue United Church and a Level 3B Starter for the British Columbia Speed Skating Association.  In the past he coached minor lacrosse and served for many years as Chair of the Queensborough Special Programs Committee and as a member of the City of New Westminster’s Community and Social Issues Committee.
